What do you need to play Shaadi Ka Suitcase?

• One small bag, cabin suitcase or school bag per pair, all roughly the same size
• 12 unbreakable household things per round on a centre table: folded saree, shawl, dupatta, pair of chappals, bangle box, makeup pouch, phone charger, steel tiffin, hair brush, small towel, empty mithai box, slippers
• One extra kurta, shirt or towel per pair for the husband's message twist
• A phone with a 60 second timer
• A centre table or a sheet on the floor that every pair can reach

How to play Shaadi Ka Suitcase, step by step

1. Put the 12 items on a table in the middle of the room and give every pair one empty bag of the same size. If there are many pairs, play in heats of 2 to 3 pairs with 12 items per pair.
2. In each pair, one lady is the fetcher and the other is the packer. The fetcher brings one item at a time from the table and the packer arranges it in the bag.
3. Start the 60 second timer. Everyone races to fetch and pack as much as possible.
4. At 30 seconds the host reads out the husband's message: "Mera kurta bhi rakh lena!" Each pair is handed one kurta, which must also go into the bag.
5. When the timer ends, every bag must be fully zipped shut. Hands off.
6. The host opens each closed bag and counts the items. The pair with the most items, including the kurta, wins.

Rules: how do you win?

• A bag that is not fully zipped when the timer ends scores zero.
• The fetcher may carry only one item per trip from the table.
• If the husband's kurta is not inside the bag, the pair is out.
• Pack only unbreakable items; nothing glass, sharp or hot.
• The pair with the most items in a closed bag is crowned Packing Queen.

Fun twists to make it crazier

• Blind packer: the packer is blindfolded and the fetcher can only guide her with words.
• Saas ka message: at 45 seconds the host adds a second message, "Mera shawl bhi le chalo!", for one more item.
• Final round: the top two pairs repeat the race with a small school bag instead of a suitcase.

Tips for the host

• Use bags of the same size for every pair so the race is fair.
• Rolling clothes instead of folding them fits more, so watch who discovers this trick.
• Keep glass bottles, perfumes and anything breakable off the table.
• Play in heats if the room is small so ladies are not bumping into each other at the table.
